Case Study from the Royal British Legion

Lance Corporal Tyler Christopher, 27, Birmingham

27 year-old soldier L/Cpl Tyler Christopher currently serving in the 4th Battalion The Rifles in the Army was injured by an IED in Afghanistan in 2009. As a result of the blast he had to have both legs amputated above the knee, as well as nearly losing his arm and suffering abdominal injuries. After recovering in Selly Oak Hospital, he was referred to Headley Court for rehabilitation, and travelled between Headley Court and his mum’s house in South Wales. During this time the Legion stepped in, as part of its Immediate Needs assistance and provided a handy man through its Poppy Calls scheme to carry out essential and urgent home adaptations.

He is part of the Battle Back Sledge Hockey team which will be competing in the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Russia. He lives in Hampshire with his girlfriend Katie and attends a full-time college course as well as dedicating as much time as possible to competing and sport.

“Changes to my mum’s home were essential for me, but also for my mum when I was home from Headley Court, and I’ll never forget that the Legion got the job done as quickly as possible to make life at that time easier for me.

“Both myself and my girlfriend are grateful for the support of the Legion and hope to some day set up our own business- something we know the Legion is also able to help with through its funding.”

Case Study Coventry Building Society Poppy Account Holder

Chris Hollis aged 53 from Rossendale, Lancashire has been a long standing member of Coventry Building Society and has saved in the Poppy Bond for the last two years. “ This is a great way for savers to support the Royal British Legion. The Poppy Bonds always pay a best buy rate so as far as I’m concerned, it’s a win win – as a saver I get a great rate on my savings and The Royal British Legion gets a significant donation – £5 million since 2008 is amazing. I have a friend whose son is currently serving in Afghanistan and my uncle was killed in the second world war, so this has always been an issue close to my heart”.

PromoManagers Extends Charitable Giving Across Brands

PromoManagers Extends Charitable Giving Across Brands

Plymouth, MA (PRWEB) October 23, 2010

PromoManagers is among the fastest growing promotional products providers over the last three years. This fall the company announced a program in which it would donate a percentage of sales to Habitat for Humanity® in conjunction with a similar program running with industry leading supplier Leeds. After receiving feedback the company has decided to extend that offer to two other brands through December. The program hopes to raise ,000 with the active participation of customers.

With the recent launch of the charitable giving program in mind the company announced the inclusion of all Norwood promotional products in addition to those previously mentioned. Norwood was founded in 1989 and rapidly bought up leading industry brands such as Barlow, Air-Tex and later Souvenir. Norwood was recently acquired by Bic and has been gradually shifting their operations to the new facilities. PromoManagers President Heather Simard said, “We felt that extending the offer to Norwood items made sense based on their popularity among business customers.” She went on to say, “Norwood is particularly strong with custom holiday gifts where they have products that nobody else carries. It just made sense to include those in the program.” Norwood has always enjoyed favorable ratings among distributors and Bic has been an award winner many years in a row. The combination of the two should provide superior service and quality.

At the same time the company has launched dozens of promotional jackets as part of the seasonal product lineup change. Ms. Simard said, “It is usually about this time of year that jackets and fleece sweatshirts become increasingly popular.” Although the weather has been seasonable the company expects to see an influx of customers looking for decorated jackets to be used as holiday gift items. “Everyone uses jackets. Even if the intended target doesn’t wear it a family or friend most certainly will. It is one of the best ways to get your logo on an item with outward exposure to the general public.” PromoManagers carries most of the leading brands and all include a 5,000 stitch logo with the option for larger logos.

PromoManagers assists a wide range of businesses, educational institutions and government organizations with their brand identities by providing promotional items and services. The company prides itself on customer service and unlike many larger national competitors has not farmed out their customer service to offshore firms. “Competitors may promote the Made in USA campaigns when in reality they’re shipping jobs overseas to save money.” The company also notes that each and every person in contact with customers has at least ten years experience in the industry. The company is active in the community and sponsors local sports teams, charities, road races and other events to the benefit of charitable organizations and children around the country.

The PayScale Index utilizes a unique approach to trend measurement. Unlike indices such as the Consumer Price Index, which measures the prices of certain goods and services (periodically updated to reflect changes in buying habits of Americans), The PayScale Index uses data on all private sector full-time employees working in a given time period.

PayScale has performed a detailed analysis of how various compensable factors, like work experience, education, employment setting and job responsibilities affect pay. This analysis is based on PayScale’s extensive data of over 23 million employee profiles, accounting for 250 compensable factors for 7,000 unique job titles, which show how the pay of actual workers varies with each of these factors.

“The greater accuracy of The PayScale Index is critical for understanding consumer confidence: for those lucky enough to still have a job, The PayScale Index shows that getting a pay cut or no raise over the last two years has been the typical experience, ” says Al Lee, Director of Quantitative Analysis at PayScale.

The PayScale Index also examines quarterly changes in the pay of employed workers across 15 private industry categories separately, 20 metropolitan areas, and across company sizes of less than 100 employees, 100-1500 employees, and more than 1500 employees. These industries include: Arts, Entertainment & Recreation; Business Operation Support Services; Construction; Finance & Insurance; Food Services & Accommodation; Healthcare & Social Assistance; Information, Media & Telecommunications; Manufacturing; Mining; Professional, Scientific & Tech Services; Real Estate; Retail; Transportation & Warehousing/Storage; Utilities; and Wholesale Trade.

Index highlights include:

Since 2006, wages are up only 4.0% for private sector employees, while the core Consumer Price Index has increased 7.5%
o    In 2009 actual (nominal) wages dropped 1.5%, and have been flat since; core CPI has continued to rise

o    The typical private sector workers earns 3.5% less in real buying power now, while doing the same job, than they earned in 2006.

o    Wages in only one industry, Mining and Oil & Gas Extraction (9.1%), have outpaced inflation since 2006.

Over the last 12 months through Q3 2010, nationally wages are up only 0.1%
o    Only 5 of 20 metros have 12 month wage increases greater than 0.1%

Baltimore (1.6%), St. Louis (0.6%), Washington DC (0.5%), New York City (0.4%), and Phoenix (0.4%)
o    Only 6 of 15 industries have 12 month wage increases greater than 0.1%

    Utilities (0.8%), Mining & Oil & Gas Extraction (0.6%), Finance (0.5%), Healthcare (0.2%), Transportation (0.2%) and Retail (0.2%)
The worst period for full-time private sector employee wages since 2006 were the six months between Q4 2008 and Q2 2009, when wages dropped 1.3%.
In the latest quarter, Q3 2010, there is no sign nationally of increases in actual wages or buying power:
o    Actual wages are down 0.1% from the previous quarter

o    Buying power is down 0.2% from the previous quarter

“The PayScale Index shows the US private sector workforce is subject to the laws of supply and demand: typical wages as measured by the PayScale Index dropped as unemployment rose in the current recession. The unique market based real-time approach of The PayScale Index makes it uniquely capable of identifying these important trends in the economy,” said Lee.
