Carol Ansley, owner of Lake Highlands Doctors Express, announced that the urgent-care center will be providing level of care pricing for self-paying patients. We want to help patients know what their care will cost.
Theres a whole new level of uninsured people in todays economy. Some have lost their jobs, and no longer are covered by health insurance from their previous employer, and others have made the economic decision to not have health insurance, said Ansley, who previously served as CEO of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition and as Vice President-Strategic Development at Medical City Dallas.
We want to provide them with a center where they can come without fear of not having any idea of what their care is going to cost.
The Care Levels begin at $ 99 for a physician visit with no tests, $ 139 for a physician visit and one test or procedure, $ 199 for a physician visit, two tests or procedures, $ 229 for a physician visit, tests and complex procedures, and $ 299 for a physician visit, complex tests and procedures. These prices are significantly lower than those in the ER.
We can tell the patient prior to care what their treatment is going to cost, Ansley said. This greatly reduces the anxiety of coming in for help.
The Lake Highlands Doctors Express opened in November 2010 and is located at the intersection of Royal Lane and Skillman Street at 9901 Royal Lane, Suite 106.
The 2,515 square foot center includes a triage room, four exam rooms, lab, digital X-ray, and an electronic medical record system, allowing the visit data to be forwarded to the patients primary care physician if they wish, or a referring hospital if necessary. Open

8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Doctors Express fills a void in the community for working parents, busy families, and neighborhood business workers as an alternative to an ER visit. Doctors Express accepts most insurance plans, no appointment is needed, and walk-ins are welcomed.
Treating everything from cuts, bruises, fractures, and flu, Doctors Express offers on-site lab tests, and digital X-rays. Jake will join Chef Frank Morales, Director of LAC’s evening programs. Adelante Healthcare Standardizes on Brivo for Access Control Management

We had to get away from lock and key, recalled Larry Kadin, Facilities and Purchasing Manager at Adelante. With keys, I dont know who has a key and how many copies may have been made. Kadin and his team researched different access control providers, but after a Brivo representative provided a live demonstration of the Brivo ACS WebService technology to Kadin and staff from the HR and IT departments, It was an easy sell at that point. We have better records and better access to data, and we can provide needed information to other departments.

The Brivo system makes my job easier and frees me up for other things. I know senior management needs to focus on bottom line cost, but there is so much more that this system does for you from a non-financial standpoint. Youd be surprised how often we use the system to check on activity like someone swiping out early. With Brivo, its easy to find out what we need, the system doesnt lie. The system is very easy to manage and we can focus our time on providing quality care to our patients. Kadin concluded.

Little Evidence of Impact of Recession on Workers’ Compensation Costs Per Claim in Maryland, Says New WCRI Study

Modest growth of workers compensation indemnity costs per claim in Maryland indicated little evidence of the potential impact of the recession, according to a new study, CompScope Benchmarks for Maryland, 12th Edition, by the Workers Compensation Research Institute (WCRI).
Amid recessionary pressures, indemnity costs per claim payments for lost wages, loss of earning capacity, or permanent impairment or disability grew four percent per year from 2007 to 2009. This rate of growth was slower than the growth in most other study states and gave the Maryland system a competitive advantage relative to other states, said WCRI.
The study indicated that during a recession period, one would typically expect to see wage growth and return to work of injured workers slow because there were fewer jobs available. In addition, there might be more incentive to settle cases for both parties because of greater uncertainty regarding the future. However, none of these characteristics apply to the Maryland experience.
For example, the average weekly wage in Maryland claims grew about five percent per year from 2007 to 2009, similar to the growth rate in prior years. The average duration of temporary disability remained stable and the percentage of claims with more than a week off from work changed little, indicating scant evidence of slower return to work.
Further, the study said it found no evidence that there was an added incentive to settle cases as the frequency of lump-sum settlement cases changed little and lump-sum payments per claim decreased modestly.
In contrast, WCRI said it found evidence in many other study states of potential recessionary impact such as slower wage growth and an increase in the duration of temporary disability.
This study also found that medical costs per claim in Maryland were among the lowest of the 16 states included in this report. Furthermore, the overall growth in medical costs per claim in Maryland from 2004 to 2009 was the slowest among the study states without major reforms.
