Malman Law Ends 2011 with New Hires

Chicago, Illinois (PRWEB) January 15, 2012
The Chicago-based Law Offices of Steven Malman & Associates PC is ending 2011 on a high note, announcing the addition of new attorneys and new support staff to its already impressive roster.
Launched in 1994 with just its namesake founder, one secretary and one assistant, Malman Law announced this week the addition of several new paralegals and administrative staff. In addition to the four new attorneys added throughout the course of 2011, the firm now includes seven attorneys and over a dozen paralegals and administrative staffers.
It was just me, my secretary and an assistant when I went into private practice 17 years ago, noted Steven Malman, who first started practicing when he graduated from the School of Law at Loyola University-Chicago and passed the bar exam exactly two decades ago. I added my first associate a few years later, and then a second a few years after that. But things really started picking up a few years ago.
The attorney partially credited a strong advertising program for the steady flow of business that ushered his firm through the Great Recession, not only facilitating but necessitating the staff escalations. All told, Malman Law has successfully resolved over 8,000 cases since 1994 (it boasts a 95 percent out-of-court settlement rate), and with this year proving to be the busiest in the firms history it took on and completed more cases, and collected a higher valuation of settlements, than ever before its founder specifically cited those marketing efforts.
Were totally committed to advertising, Steven Malman said. Were probably the second-largest television advertiser in Chicago, and probably the largest Internet advertiser. Theres no doubt that commitment has paid off.
But the biggest factor in his firms growth, the attorney added, has been the exemplary customer service provided by his lawyers and other staffers, leading to tons of personal referrals from our current and older clients.
A good third of our business is referrals from existing clients, and I cant think of a better endorsement for the work done by our staff, he said. We have great customer service that focuses on our clients and makes it as easy as possible on them, and that shows in the impressive number of word-of-mouth referrals we receive.”
Well go out to see clients so they dont have to come to us, Steven Malman added. Well always put their needs first and address their concerns as best we can. This is an unbelievably dedicated staff, including the recent hires and those whove been with me for years, and they really do care about every clients wellbeing. And clients know they can contact me personally. Im always available.
With about a third of his staff dedicated to cases of neglect and abuse in nursing homes, a third focused on workers compensation claims (a booming practice area during the recession, Malman noted, with more workers losing their jobs) and a third concentrating on other personal injury cases (everything from automobile accidents to dog bites), the attorney is planning several further additions in 2012.
Adding to a notable staff that already included a former physician (and law school graduate) who provides expert medical reviews, Malman this year brought in a former defense attorney who previously represented nursing homes. Next year, hell be looking to introduce two new attorneys and at least two additional paralegals, all focused on other specific areas.
As long as the demand is there, well keep growing, Steven Malman said. And the demand is definitely there. We have a team of 20 dedicated professionals now, including seven attorneys, and well keep adding to it, as much as necessary, to ensure that we can not only bring the proper legal resources to bear on every case, but that our customer service remains an example throughout the legal profession.
It all starts with customer service, he added. Thats whats made this firm so successful, and what will continue to drive our success in the future.

Walk While You Work: Iowa State University Releases Preliminary Findings from the Coordinated Use of TrekDesks

Ames, IA (PRWEB) January 17, 2012
Physical inactivity may be Americas largest public health nemesis, contributing to a myriad of chronic diseases including obesity, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, hypertension, cancer, depression and anxiety, arthritis, and osteoporosis. Since the average American walks less than half the amount of steps necessary to maintain health and prevent disease, a major challenge is getting office workers and students moving in an increasingly sedentary work environment. Researchers at Iowa State University have just released preliminary findings of a large scale study designed to test the merits of one potential solution: TrekDesk treadmill desks.
The research project is coordinated by a team at Iowa States Nutrition and Wellness Research Center (NWRC) led by Dr. Greg Welk, Director of Clinical Research and Community Outreach. The team launched a campus wide campaign to promote interest and involvement in physical activity and a key part of their programming involved re-engineering work/ study environments with the use of TrekDesk Treadmill Desks combined with LifeSpan Fitness treadmills provided by 2nd Wind.
We have TrekDesks in use at numerous universities across the country, stated TrekDesk CEO Steve Bordley, many are conducting studies on a variety of health and productivity issues, however the scale of the Iowa State study, when completed, will be larger than all of the other studies combined. I think that shows extraordinary leadership and commitment to their goal of educating America about its current health challenges and offering life changing information and solutions.
The TrekDesk study is part of Iowa States commitment to the national Exercise is Medicine campaign, an effort coordinated by the American College of Sports Medicine and other leading health and fitness organizations to educate the public and medical professionals about the need to view exercise as a vital sign.
The NWRC created a plan that enables the TrekDesks to be piloted in departments and office units across campus. Dr. Welk commented, Our staff have really enjoyed the opportunities to use the TrekDesks in our facility so we worked out a way to promote shared use across campus. Over 35 other office groups are in line to participate in the three phased testing process. “The interest has been incredible, Dr. Welk said. We have a waiting list through April of next year which indicates that people are really interested in ways of being more active at work.
Logging the use of the TrekDesks over specific time intervals, Dr. Welk and his team has focused the study on evaluating patterns and perceptions of use as well as overall satisfaction with the concept of walking while working. Their hope initially is to gain an insight into how to effectively introduce physical activity and at what intervals into the workplace for maximum health benefits.
The study has completed two waves and is currently in the third wave. The first two waves covered the following departments and offices: Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development, College of Human Sciences Deans Office, Kinesiology, Presidents Office, Administrative Services, Sociology, College of Design and Chemistry.
Approximately 82% of survey respondents indicated that they would recommend the TrekDesk and 73% agreed that the university should consider getting TrekDesks for their employees. It should be noted that the TrekDesks were placed in common areas of the offices so that many individuals could have access during the day as opposed to specific offices. Some specific findings are highlighted below:

Avera Health Implements MediClick for Contracts & Analysis
(PRWEB) January 10, 2012
Raleigh, NC January 4, 2012 Upon taking the role of Averas first-ever vice president of supply chain in the spring of 2010, 36-year healthcare industry veteran, Allen Caudle, recognized that his supply chain team faithfully poured data into a bulky ERP system, only to be left with a dearth of contract information. As a result, the team had a difficult time ensuring pricing accuracy and analyzing spend for savings opportunities.
The regional partnership of health care facilities in the five-state region of South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska needed a central repository for all of its supply and service contracts at 17 of its 29 hospitals and health centers. To do the job, the selection committee chose MediClick for Contracts & Analysis (C&A), the flagship product of MediClick, the leading provider of Web-based analytics and savings solutions for the healthcare industry.
Implementing C&As Services Contract Workbench in October and its Supply Contract Workbench in January, Caudle says MediClick came prepared to meet the unique challenges of Averas organization.
The successful implementation is only the start of the relationship between Avera and Mediclick.
Avera will use C&A to bring all of its organizations data into one centralized location to perform spend analysis, obtain better pricing on supplies and services, ensure theyre paying the correct price on items and verify rebates due from their vendor.
Were looking to create opportunities in areas where we have no contracts or multiple contracts for the same spend areas, Caudle says. We also want to be able to leverage our volume to get better pricing on system-wide contracts.
Because C&A will give Avera enhanced visibility into their supply chain and services contracts, Jason Wulf, senior financial analyst for Avera, expects the organization to become more strategic with what theyre purchasing whether buying a stent or a service.
Before, we didnt have a single place to store contracts so we couldnt see all of our contracts easily, says Wulf. MediClick enables us to bring each hospitals contracts together.
Avera can, therefore, move toward a centralized supply chain where contracts are negotiated from the main office.
On the services side, theyll remain fairly decentralized because one hospital may need a service that another hospital may not need. But MediClick will enable all local and hospital-wide service contracts to be routed through the legal department for review.
MediClick will also save Avera time during the contract approval process. Contracting personnel would manually route hard copies of contracts to legal, supply chain and the CEO. That meant 2-3 weeks of not knowing exactly where the contract was. C&A will convert that paper-based process to electronic.
With C&A, we dont have to worry about where it is or whos next on the approval list, Wulf says. It will make for easier tracking and organization.
Caudle says that attention to detail demonstrates MediClicks understanding of the healthcare industry.
I like MediClick because its products are designed specifically for healthcare and most contract systems are not, Caudle says. These are healthcare insiders who really understand our unique operations.
Caudle attributes MediClicks ability to be attentive to Averas needs to the companys agility, which was a tremendous benefit during the implementation process.
We looked at several larger software vendors, which are great for companies like IBM or Motorola, but not good for healthcare, says Avera. MediClicks turnaround time on some of our needs took only a couple of months.
MediClick has been a good partner, he says. I feel like Im the coach of a football team at the end of the third quarter and were ahead 30 to nothing. Things are looking great.

SimplyHome Returns to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition with Second Appearance of the Season
Asheville, N.C. (PRWEB) January 04, 2012
When it became clear that off the shelf technologies would not provide the solutions needed for Audrey Gibbs and her family, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition contacted assistive technology leader and show veteran, SimplyHome. The Gibbs Family episode marks SimplyHomes second appearance on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition this season and premieres Friday, January 6, 2012 at 8pm EST.
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has done a great job improving accessibility in the home beyond the physical environment, said Ian Sanders, Director of Sales at SimplyHome. With the use of technology, we are able to expand options that really support independent living.
Prior to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Audrey Gibbs and her six children lived in a rural Iowa farmhouse with no functional plumbing or indoor bathrooms. Soon after her husbands death, Audreys vision began to fail and it became difficult for her to travel to town for work.
SimplyHome was asked to create business applications and technologies that would enable Audrey to work out of her new home. Supports provided by SimplyHome included: custom software with features such as appointment scheduling, billing, and communication with clients; integration for all business applications with Audreys iPad, iPhone and laptop; and a business website. Audrey also received a scanning device that can audibly read typewritten words and handwriting from a piece of paper.
In Addition, SimplyHome setup a surround sound system in Audreys massage room, wi-fi throughout the house, and a 42″ interactive touch screen television for her daughter.
We are pleased to return to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, said Allen Ray, CEO of SimplyHome. But what pleases us more is that we were able to create solutions that empowered Audrey to continue working.

SimplyHome designs and installs wireless technology products and related care-focused services. The company is committed to promoting affordable and dignified options for independent living specifically to aging and disabled populations nationwide.
